This daytime bar is divided into two elongated rooms, one slightly raised above the other. A cluster of monolithic, geometric volumes sits at the centre of the venue, blurring the boundaries between wall, furniture and sculpture. These solid shapes appear to be caught between the two areas, and while they serve a functional purpose – housing the bar, shelving and storage – they also create a strong spatial focus for the small venue.
In the bright front room, natural light floods in, casting playful shadows on the rigid geometric forms and creating a lively atmosphere around the bar. The lower, more intimate back room offers flexible table arrangements that can be clustered or combined into a long communal setting (see MIXED DOUBLE).
Mirrored walls along the short ends of the lower room and adjoining rooms in the upper room visually enhance the elongated feel of the spaces, while curtains in front of them provide flexible separation as well as colourful accents.
The curtains are printed with landscape backdrops from a famous 1980s animated series (featuring a character named Orko) – designed in collaboration with Wiegand von Hartmann.
