An office and shop occupying a heritage-listed interior shaped by setbacks, arches, steps and a sequence of sculptural recesses and irregular geometries. Our intervention was deliberately restrained, clarifying and accentuating these monolithic spatial qualities. Existing finishes were pared back to a simple palette of plaster, paint, and linoleum where the original flooring could not be retained.
The project’s functional requirements were introduced through a minimalist furniture system (similar to that of MADE TO MEASURE). Beyond this, very little was added. Each of these elements is constructed from the same material and thickness of butt-jointed panels, aligned to a common grid. This repetition creates a consistent aesthetic, with just the kitchen assuming a more informal, assembled character. Here, off-the-shelf appliances and cabinets are gathered under a continuous backboard, integrating the everyday into the abstract system.
