Just two signs for the Rathausgalerie in Munich. Although the gallery is located in one of Munich’s main tourist attractions – the neo-Gothic townhall – it remains almost invisible, tucked away behind an interior courtyard. Previously, the gallery had relied on repurposed signage from the Munich City Planning Department to announce its exhibitions. In the same spirit, our design concept combined these existing, worn, and weathered signs with the gallery’s new graphic identity designed by PARAT.cc.
The transformation focused on modifying two of the metal cover plates – shaping them from rectangular planes into circular forms – and repainting them in the signature black and white of the new visual identity. With little more than what was already there, the previously-hidden gallery now has its own identity, prominently displayed right on the bustling Marienplatz.
